Biblical Super Foods

Biblical Super Foods

Biblical Super Foods.

The secret foods that saved Daniel.

Biblical Super Foods

When King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon lived back in about 600BC, he was responsible for the sacking and destruction of Jerusalem.

He took many Jerusalem-ites back to Babylon with him as slaves including Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 4 Jewish boys.

In the Bible account, the King asked that a bunch of healthy-looking boys to be trained in the language and customs to serve in the King’s court.

Melzar, prince of the eunuchs, was instructed to feed the boys the same food as from the King’s table to make sure they remained healthy.

But the boys knew that much of the food offered from the King was not in accordance with the Law of Moses and they asked instead to be served pulse every day.

Pulse was a mixture of dried seed or grain, such as. barley, wheat, rye, and peas, or any kind of seed and plants that bear seeds as well as vegetables. It was called Zeroa in Hebrew.

Melzar was reluctant fearing that the boys would not remain healthy and tried to talk them out of it but in the end, he relented.023-023-daniel-refusing-the-kings-food-and-wine-full

According to the Bible, at the end of a certain time, all the boys were brought before Nebuchadnezzar and the healthiest of them all were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.

Pulse is very high in protein, fiber, complex carbohydrates and low in fat—ideal for optimal nutrition and weight control.

In 2011, a group of film makers from Brigham Young University were going to the middle east to shoot some films in Yemen and Jordan.

The Director of the crew, Peter Johnson had many allergies and was worried that the local food would present a problem.

So, turning to the Bible, the crew concocted some PULSE BARS that he could eat in lieu of questionable local food.

In doing their research to make this Biblical super food, they came up with some great information.

doctrine-of-food-signatures_11x17optOld herbalism used to teach the “doctrine of signatures”. That meant that if an herb looked a certain way, specific cures could be assumed.

One of those was walnuts. Walnuts looked like a brain and so they figured that eating walnuts was good for your brain.

Interestingly, they are good for the brain due to the presence of omega 3 fatty acids and melatonin. Eating a bunch of walnuts before bed can help sleeplessness.

Almonds are shaped like the amygdala, which is in the brain. The amygdala controls emotions. Anxiety, autism, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and phobias are suspected of being linked to abnormal functioning of the amygdala.

Almonds are a great source of magnesium, potassium, copper, riboflavin (vitamin B2), and phosphorus and are high in protein and heart-healthy monounsaturated fat.  Together they not only help to stabilize our emotions and enhance our mood they also increase your antioxidant levels and lower your blood sugar and insulin that rise after eating.

Cut a tomato in half and you’ll see a resemblance to the chambers of the heart. Tomatoes contain lycopene which lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, Daniel and his friends would not have had these to eat since they originated in the Western hemisphere.

A bunch of grapes resembles the alveoli in the lungs. A diet high in fresh grapes has shown to reduce the risk of lung cancer and emphysema. Grape seeds also contain a chemical called proanthocyanidin which is thought to reduce the severity of asthma triggered by allergy.

Kidney beans (in the shape of kidneys) have been proven to heal and maintain kidney function.

Celery, rhubarb and bok-choy have the appearance of bones. They also contain calcium, an essential mineral for bone health.

Figs most certainly would have been included in pulse. Figs, hanging in twos, resemble testicles. Studies have shown that figs do indeed increase the mobility of sperm and help male fertility.

Olives resemble a woman’s ovaries. Italian studies have shown that women who have a diet high in olives have a lower incidence of ovarian cancer. Olive oil was used as a powerful nutrient to sustain very weak individuals recuperating from illness or accident. It is easily digested and also helps with cleansing the system of toxins.

I think you get the idea. Seeds, nuts, fruits and vegetables have incredible healing properties.

I’m not saying a person should become vegetarian, but if you have chronic illnesses, backing off on meat products and eating more of a vegetable and fruit diet might help you overcome those illnesses.

Try doctoring up some hummus with tomatoes, almonds, celery, peppers and other vegetables to make a meal-time dish in the spirit of pulse.

In addition to eating well, it’s also important to eliminate as many toxins from our lives as possible.

Avoiding Toxins – PVC

Avoiding Toxins – PVC

.Avoiding Toxins

We are so inundated with toxins in our environment that it’s almost impossible to avoid them.

Here is some advice on avoiding toxins.

Let’s focus on one particular type of toxin, PVC.
Most people, when they think of PVC, they think about water pipes, rain jackets or shower curtains. While those are certainly products made of PVC, there are thousands more products around us that contain PVC.

There are so many places it’s used that it may be impossible to completely avoid it. But you can lessen the contact by becoming aware.

I make a short video explaining the good and bad things about PVC. In this video I also give you a list of typical products containing PVC and what you can do to identify and to avoid it in your life.

Why should you avoid PVC? Some of you older folks may remember the hubbub made years ago about dioxins in the environment. Many dioxins were banned. But guess what contains dioxins….PVC.

Dioxins are a known carcinogen.

We’re not sure how PVC has not been banned as well. It might have something to do with political lobby. It is banned in about 14 worldwide countries.

Here’s the video. After you watch it, leave me a comment or suggestion and let’s keep the conversation going by sharing. The more people that become aware, the better off we’ll be.

How to Correctly Use Essential Oils

Posted by: | Posted on: October 2, 2016
Essential Oils

How to correctly use essential oils.

Essential OilsNot too long ago I was invited to an “essential oil party”. Some entrepreneurs had become purveyors of essential oils and were peddling their wares locally. So I decided to check it out.

I’m always willing to help out local entrepreneurs. Sometimes they have some great products that I’d like to use.

With my background in herbology, I was especially interested in what she had to say about essential oils.

I was aghast. She was plopping drops of essential oils in everyone’s mouths like it was diet soda and using a roll-on applicator to smear it on people.

Well, I found this to be not only disconcerting but felt that it was a pretty dangerous practice.

I couldn’t see a doctor inviting people to his living room to try out all the different medicines.

“Here you go, this is the latest anti-biotic. Just swallow this and tell me what you think.”

I spent two years getting my certification in herbology studying anatomy and physiology as well as diagnosis and treatment with herbs.

Essential oils are pharmaceutical grade herbal remedies. They are extremely powerful and it bothers me not a little bit when an entrepreneur becomes the doctor because they have something to sell.

Now don’t get me wrong. I am happy that these powerful healers are still available without prescriptions. I hope they remain so.

I’m also glad that there  are reputable companies that offer quality products and can back it up.

So yes, there needs to be entrepreneurs who will sell them to the people that need them.

Even pharmaceuticals have their sales people.

But it behooves those entrepreneurs to become really educated about their products and know what they are talking about.

Too often I see someone on FB complaining of an ailment and somebody inevitably recommends an essential oil as a cure knowing little more than a less-than 140 character post on Facebook.

People, you need to stop doing this.

Your job as a sales person is to offer education and let the person make their own decisions.

Here is a little slideshare that will help you recommend wise use of essential oils.

Leave me a comment below to let me know if you have something to add.

Are You Damaging Your Body Trying To Lose Weight?

Posted by: | Posted on: June 20, 2016
Weight Loss

Are you damaging your body trying to lose weight?

When I was sWeight Losstudying herbology, I learned that overuse of herbs that drive the kidneys like diuretics and stimulants can be detrimental.

After long use of diuretics and stimulants, the kidneys can become exhausted and become damaged from the constant kick.

As I learned more in studying Traditional Chinese medicine, I realized that it’s much deeper than I had previously learned.

In TCM, the kidneys refer not just to the two organs in the body but to a whole system and are associated with the “gate of vitality” or “ming men”.

“A famous Chinese doctor named Zhang Jie Bin (approximately 1563-1640) wrote ‘there are two kidneys, (kidney yin and yang), with the Gate of Vitality between them. The kidney is the organ of water and fire, the abode of yin and yang, the sea of essence, and it determines life and death.’” (Wikipedia)

The kidneys control “Jing” or “essence” and there are two counterparts, the yin and the yang.

The balance of the Jing is extremely important.

This is why I have been a proponent of avoidance regular use of stimulants that drive the kidney like caffeine and other drugs.

Almost ALL of what they call “natural” weight loss supplements contain amounts small and large of caffeine and other stimulant drugs.

While these supplements can hasten weight loss, perhaps they may not be good in the long run.

Studies have shown that most of these programs tend to promote yoyo dieting.

The person will at first lose weight but as soon as the supplements are discontinued, they gain the weight back and sometimes more.

The same thing happens with extreme low calorie diets.

There’s a thing called “body set point”. Your body gets accustomed to a particular weight and fat content. In order to lose weight permanently, you need to create a new set point.

So slow weight loss works better.

It also is less damaging to your kidney Jing.

Many people already have Jing imbalance and using stimulants to hasten weight loss only intensifies that imbalance putting stress on the kidneys.

Working WITH the body to reset the body’s set point allows your body to also balance the jing as you lose weight.

There is a place for caffeine containing herbs but they should be used in balance with other herbs. TCM seldom uses single herbs.

Most of the so-called “natural” weight loss supplements contain synthetic caffeine and taurine. Guarana is often added to these to increase the caffeine content and make them “look” like an herbal supplement.

I get annoyed with misuse of herbs like guarana and ephedra. Both herbs have important healing properties but have been overused and misused in the weight loss industry.

Misuse of ephedra caused it to be banned because it actually killed people. Just because something is herbal does not mean it’s safe to use without knowing what you’re doing.

Foxglove can save lives and it can also kill you if used wrong. The same is true of many herbs.

Patches that deliver a steady stream of stimulants to burn fat keep your body in a constant stress mode and prevent the balance of the Jing.

A person may become addicted to them not only because caffeine is addictive but because their bodies are trying to reset themselves to the higher stimulant content.

A better approach to weight loss is to lose weight slowly.

Increase your activity levels. You don’t need to become a mad jogger or fitness freak. Just move more. Set a time so you don’t sit for more than 20 minutes at a time. Then get up and walk around and do some type of physical activity for 5-10 minutes.

See my article on Pomodoro Time Management:

Learn better eating habits. With all the information available, nobody has an excuse to be unaware of how to eat healthy.

It’s actually pretty simple. Eat fresh food from the produce aisle. Eat fresh organic meat and dairy if you choose to eat those.

Use organic products that are free from toxic substances like hormone disruptors and toxic chemicals.

Use Google!

Adding some concentrated nutrients is good to restore health as long as you’re sure they are 100% certified organic.

The Perfect Storm

The Perfect Storm – How to make the most of it.

The Perfect Storm

After you listen to this podcast, get back to me about how you can benefit from this perfect storm.

There is a Perfect Storm that is happening in the marketplace and you can be a part of it.

There really are only 2 ways to create or catalyze wealth in a person’s life:

  1. To solve a major problem that a large portion of the masses struggles with daily- or # 2. To introduce a new idea to the masses that will increase, enlarge, improve, and elevate the life that they live. We have run across something that addresses both of those things and want to simply share them with you.

The first part of this Perfect Success Storm is more and more people especially moms are becoming aware and very concerned over all the toxins that are in the house, in our foods, and in our bodies. It’s a huge problem. Most people do not know this, but there are over 20,000 more chemicals in our life today and in the products we use than in 1985. Did you know that by 9 AM every morning, the average woman has over 200 chemicals in her body from what she has put on? This includes shampoo, skincare, and cleaning products. And did you know that that it takes less than 30 seconds for chemicals on the floor to enter the bloodstream of a child? Is it any wonder that the increase of diseases in our bodies has accelerated dramatically the last 25 years? Here is my question: WHO sold us on this insane lifestyle of man-made toxins and chemicals being acceptable and normal as a part of our bodies and lifestyle?

The Organic market is now just about ready to go mainstream with many businesses starting to add organic products to their shelf for their customers. THAT is perfect timing for our Organic Living Company.

Now for the second part of this Perfect Success Storm.

We have discovered a Direct Sales Organic Living Company that is just getting started with building its team of Leaders and distributors. It is PERFECT timing as this company currently worldwide – has less than 1000 distributors with less than 800 in North America.  This company has over 100 products- all 100% certified organic. Their products help address the problem of manmade toxins in the home, our bodies, and in our lifestyle. All are totally 100% toxin free.

Have you ever wanted to find a company that is at the very beginning of building its marketing and Leadership team? Most # 1 earners started at the very beginning of a company, and you are now in that same exact position as well with this company.

This Organic Living Company satisfies the 2 wealth catalyzers I just went over, and is at the very beginning of the Organic Storm that is coming. It is also at the very beginning of the building of the team of Leaders that will help share the products to the masses worldwide. It truly is the Perfect Success Storm. And as hot a topic as organic products and food are starting to become, PLUS being at the very beginning of a direct sales/network marketing company, you are looking at a TRUE unlimited business vehicle that can be your path to extraordinary success that you have only dreamed of.

Bio-Ethanol Godsend or Not?

Posted by: | Posted on: June 14, 2016

Bio-Ethanol Godsend or Not?

Responsible people agree that a clean environment is better for mankind. It’s indisputable.

Petroleum is considered a non-renewable resource and can’t be around forever especially if mankind increases its demand for the product.

Also, it is currently controlled in much of the world by some countries that support terror.

Although, it’s use has become considerably cleaner, it is still not the cleanest fuel source and many scientists claim it is responsible for carbon emissions which they claim increase global warming.

This article is not here to argue if it is true or not.

Let’s discuss the pros and cons of using bio-fuels.

Yes, they DO have cons.

I read an article this morning about Nissan developing an affordable bio-ethanol fuel cell that could make bio-fuel cars more accessible to the mass market.

“The technology combines the transformed bio-ethanol with air to power an electric motor. You’re theoretically getting a “carbon-neutral” car with much more range than a pure EV — Nissan is aiming for 497 miles on a tank where even the best Tesla Model S runs out of power at 294 miles. And since you wouldn’t need to store hydrogen, you wouldn’t need either giant tanks inside cars or special fuel stations.”

It sound promising.

Why we should be concerned about using food to burn.

But the article says the bio-ethanol would be produced from corn or sugar cane, both of which are also food crops.

Both of those are currently used to produce bio-ethanol.

However, an increase in demand would mean that a lot of farming area would be transformed from food production to fuel production.

Prices of food would increase.

This Forbes article illustrates 3 reasons why using corn ethanol are a bad idea:

The article explains a lot about how the current practice of using corn ethanol as a fuel additive got started and the problems with it.

  1. There are a lot of politics involved in the industry.
  2. Adding ethanol to gasoline reduces mileage.
  3. As cars become more fuel efficient, it becomes harder to meet the congressional mandates set up a few years ago.

Of course, making a bio-ethanol fuel cell would be different from using ethanol as a gasoline additive.

But the problem remains that the world needs to be fed and burning up food for transportation seems a really bad idea.

How about finding a NON-FOOD resource for ethanol production?

What do you think?

Leave a comment and share.

What Is Oil Pulling And Why Is It Good For My Teeth?

Posted by: | Posted on: June 9, 2016
What is Oil Pulling?

What is Oil Pulling and Why Is It Good For My Teeth?

What is Oil Pulling?

What the heck is oil pulling and why is it good for my teeth?

I ran across some articles today talking about oil pulling.

I was intrigued.

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that has been used to pull toxins from the mouth.

Dr. Amala Guha, assistant professor of immunology and medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center and the founding president of The International Society for Ayurveda and Health said that using liquids in the mouth for health purposes is mentioned in two ancient Indian Ayurvedic texts (one written in 800 B.C. and the other in 700 B.C.), and the practice is part of one of the oldest health systems in the world. (

According to the ancient texts, oil pulling is a cure for about 30 different diseases including diabetes and headaches.

There are two techniques:

    1. Put the liquid into your mouth hold it for a couple of minutes and swish inside your mouth for 3-5 minutes.
    2. Repeat at least 3 times.
    1. Hold the liquid in the mouth for 3-5 minutes without swishing.
    2. Spit and repeat several times.

Dr. Guha said that many liquids can be used for the process including infusions and decoctions of herbs, milk, honey and oils.

Guha recommends using coconut or sesame oils.

Seeing results will probably take a few months but most people report stronger gums, less plaque buildup and cavity prevention.

The Ayurvedic claims seem to be supported by scientific studies.

A 2009 study done with adolescent boys with plaque induced gingivitis showed that oil pulling greatly reduced the plaque buildup and gingivitis.

These results were reinforced in a larger study done in 2013. The lauric acid in coconut oil kills the bacterium Streptococcus mutans that causes plaque and also helps get rid of viruses and yeast.

The American Dental association does not endorse the use of oil pulling and says there aren’t enough studies to warrant its use. However, they say that it does not appear to cause harm.

As to using the technique for other cures, Dr. Guha said that none of the Ayurvedic schools in the US are certified. Only the schools in India are certified schools.

Improper Ayurvedic practice can cause problems so it’s best to seek out someone trained at a certified school of Ayurveda.

Amla, Bilberries, Hawthorne Berries and Liquorice root are some of the herbs used with the technique in treating diseases of the mouth.

Neem is used as a chewing stick for dental health.

Studies with neem show that it can be effective in reducing dental caries.

According to the Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine, oil pulling can be used where brushing is contraindicated.

If you enjoyed this article, please leave a comment and share.

How to Make Comfrey Salve

How to Make Comfrey Salve

How to Make Comfrey Salve by Anita Hales, CH

How to Make Comfrey Salve

Comfrey Root Salve
Comfrey has been used for centuries as a food and medicine. It was commonly used as a livestock feed as well.
Comfrey is known by herbalists as vulnerary, astringent, demulcent and expectorant.
Also called “knitbone” it was well known for hastening healing of tissues and bones. It was also used for coughs and lung issues. Its demulcent properties make it soothing for salves and creams.
The main useful components of comfrey are:
”    Mucilage (fructans)
”    Tannins
”    Allantoin
”    Rosmarinic acid
”    Sarracine
”    Platyphylline
”    Triterpenes
”    Sterols

However, a study done in the 1980s revealed that it contains hepatotoxic pyrolizidine alkaloids and recommends that it not be taken internally. I could find only one reference to someone dying from ingesting comfrey. So use internally at your own risk.
Here’s how to make the salve:
Gather a quantity of root and/or leaves. Root is best when gathered in the fall but may be used all year round. Breaking off a few pieces of the root will not damage the plant.
Wash thoroughly and chop into small pieces. (A food processor may be used)
Put the prepared plant in a double boiler or slow cooker and put in enough coconut oil to cover it.
Simmer for 3 hours.
Strain out plant parts.
At this point you may add a little beeswax to thicken the salve. It doesn’t take a lot.
You may also add a few drops of lavender or tea tree essential oil as a preservative and for additional healing properties.
Pour into containers while hot. A 2 ounce baby food jar is perfect.
Apply to wounds, bruises, and skin eruptions. Make sure any open wounds are cleaned well. It can hasten the healing so much that dirt and germs could be trapped under healing tissues and cause infections. Adding lavender essential oil will help reduce chance of infections.

What Makes a Person OLD

Posted by: | Posted on: December 1, 2015

Today is my birthday. I turned 65 years old.

So I’m pondering whether or not I’m really an old person, senior citizen, aged, over the hill, reaching the end, old gray mare….

Inside is still that person with a sense of humor and tendency towards misbehaving.

I remember my legs taking me up mountains and down paths. They still do only a little slower. I also have some hardware installed in the knees that the airport people just love.

The World Health Organization has set “old age” at 50 years. If that’s so, I’ve been a geezer for several years now. You may be in the geezer club and not even know it.

According to Wikipedia, most Britons consider old age starting at 59. If you’re under age 24, you probably consider 54 to be “old”. 80-year-olds consider 69 to be “old age”.

Signs of old age include physical deterioration. (This old gray mare ain’t what she used to be.) Also, mental issues. They tend to repeat themselves, repeat themselves.

One Egyptian scribe wrote: “O Sovereign my Lord! Oldness has come; old age has descended. Feebleness has arrived; dotage is here anew. The heart sleeps wearily every day.
The eyes are weak, the ears are deaf, the strength is disappearing because of weariness of the heart and the mouth is silent and cannot speak.
The heart is forgetful and cannot recall yesterday. The bone suffers old age. God is become evil. All taste is gone. What old age does to men is evil in every respect.

Lovely. I never had taste anyway or so I’m told.

And then there’s this lovely diatribe from Shakespeare:

“The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slipper’d pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.”

Not quite there yet.

I’m hoping I’m at the age of wisdom where people are in awe of my experience and knowledge and climb mountains to seek my advice.

No, not the same thing as the old hags in folklore who cackle and ask for money to give you what they know.

But then I can always use some money.

Maybe I’ll find a nice warm cave somewhere to live so people can take pilgrimages to visit me and leave me jewels and gold coins for my wisdom. I could share a few words with politicians.

For now, I’ll just tear around in my little red Jeep and frighten the wits out of all the other people on the road. I’ll forget what I went to town for and spend money on something anyway so it isn’t a wasted trip. I’ll wear clothes that are out of style and don’t match at all with ugly sensible shoes.

I’ll take cruises and be an obnoxious tourist.

I’ll embarrass my grown children and my grandchildren with my antics.

I’ll laugh about everything and take nothing seriously and hopefully take some people down that road with me.

And all the while, people will give me a pass because I have gray hair and they’ll think I’m old.

This could be fun.

10 Movie Quotes Outside the Box

Posted by: | Posted on: December 1, 2015

One of my favorite movies is The Matrix.

The movie takes place in a future time where computers have enslaved the human race making them effectively into batteries. People don’t know they are slaves because the Matrix plants false memories and episodes in their heads simulating real life.

A small group of people have awakened from the Matrix and are trying to awaken the rest of mankind to defeat the computer program slave masters.

Perhaps the most important thought I got from the movie is how so many people live their lives exactly like they are living in the Matrix, without real control of their lives. They wait to be acted on instead of taking action and control of their own lives. They are firmly inside the box and can’t think outside of it.

The hero, Neo, is believed to be THE ONE who will finally be able to pull his mind completely out of the Matrix to control it rather than having it control him. They believe he is the hope of mankind.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from the movie

  1. Morpheus: I can only show you the door. You’re the one who has to walk through it.

2. Morpheus: There’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.

3. Spoon boy: Do not try and bend the spoon. That’s impossible. Instead… only try to realize the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Spoon boy: There is no spoon.
Neo: There is no spoon?
Spoon boy: Then you’ll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.

4. Morpheus: What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.

5. Neo: What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge bullets?
Morpheus: No, Neo. I’m trying to tell you that when you’re ready, you won’t have to.

6. Morpheus: The Matrix is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

7. Neo: I know you’re out there. I can feel you now. I know that you’re afraid… you’re afraid of us. You’re afraid of change. I don’t know the future. I didn’t come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it’s going to begin. I’m going to hang up this phone, and then I’m going to show these people what you don’t want them to see. I’m going to show them a world without you. A world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries. A world where anything is possible. Where we go from there is a choice I leave to you.

8. Morpheus: You have to let it all go, Neo. Fear, doubt, and disbelief, Free your mind.

9. Morpheus: The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you’re inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.

10. Morpheus: What are you waiting for? You’re faster than this. Don’t think you are, know you are. Come on. Stop trying to hit me and hit me.

There are some great quotes in this movie that can get you thinking outside the box. How often we let the illusion of what we are capable of cloud what we really can do.

We also let our unseen limitations limit the success we have in life and in our business.

If you have found value in this please leave a comment and share with friends.
