Biblical Super Foods.
The secret foods that saved Daniel.
When King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon lived back in about 600BC, he was responsible for the sacking and destruction of Jerusalem.
He took many Jerusalem-ites back to Babylon with him as slaves including Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 4 Jewish boys.
In the Bible account, the King asked that a bunch of healthy-looking boys to be trained in the language and customs to serve in the King’s court.
Melzar, prince of the eunuchs, was instructed to feed the boys the same food as from the King’s table to make sure they remained healthy.
But the boys knew that much of the food offered from the King was not in accordance with the Law of Moses and they asked instead to be served pulse every day.
Pulse was a mixture of dried seed or grain, such as. barley, wheat, rye, and peas, or any kind of seed and plants that bear seeds as well as vegetables. It was called Zeroa in Hebrew.
Melzar was reluctant fearing that the boys would not remain healthy and tried to talk them out of it but in the end, he relented.
According to the Bible, at the end of a certain time, all the boys were brought before Nebuchadnezzar and the healthiest of them all were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.
Pulse is very high in protein, fiber, complex carbohydrates and low in fat—ideal for optimal nutrition and weight control.
In 2011, a group of film makers from Brigham Young University were going to the middle east to shoot some films in Yemen and Jordan.
The Director of the crew, Peter Johnson had many allergies and was worried that the local food would present a problem.
So, turning to the Bible, the crew concocted some PULSE BARS that he could eat in lieu of questionable local food.
In doing their research to make this Biblical super food, they came up with some great information.
Old herbalism used to teach the “doctrine of signatures”. That meant that if an herb looked a certain way, specific cures could be assumed.
One of those was walnuts. Walnuts looked like a brain and so they figured that eating walnuts was good for your brain.
Interestingly, they are good for the brain due to the presence of omega 3 fatty acids and melatonin. Eating a bunch of walnuts before bed can help sleeplessness.
Almonds are shaped like the amygdala, which is in the brain. The amygdala controls emotions. Anxiety, autism, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and phobias are suspected of being linked to abnormal functioning of the amygdala.
Almonds are a great source of magnesium, potassium, copper, riboflavin (vitamin B2), and phosphorus and are high in protein and heart-healthy monounsaturated fat. Together they not only help to stabilize our emotions and enhance our mood they also increase your antioxidant levels and lower your blood sugar and insulin that rise after eating.
Cut a tomato in half and you’ll see a resemblance to the chambers of the heart. Tomatoes contain lycopene which lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease. However, Daniel and his friends would not have had these to eat since they originated in the Western hemisphere.
A bunch of grapes resembles the alveoli in the lungs. A diet high in fresh grapes has shown to reduce the risk of lung cancer and emphysema. Grape seeds also contain a chemical called proanthocyanidin which is thought to reduce the severity of asthma triggered by allergy.
Kidney beans (in the shape of kidneys) have been proven to heal and maintain kidney function.
Celery, rhubarb and bok-choy have the appearance of bones. They also contain calcium, an essential mineral for bone health.
Figs most certainly would have been included in pulse. Figs, hanging in twos, resemble testicles. Studies have shown that figs do indeed increase the mobility of sperm and help male fertility.
Olives resemble a woman’s ovaries. Italian studies have shown that women who have a diet high in olives have a lower incidence of ovarian cancer. Olive oil was used as a powerful nutrient to sustain very weak individuals recuperating from illness or accident. It is easily digested and also helps with cleansing the system of toxins.
I think you get the idea. Seeds, nuts, fruits and vegetables have incredible healing properties.
I’m not saying a person should become vegetarian, but if you have chronic illnesses, backing off on meat products and eating more of a vegetable and fruit diet might help you overcome those illnesses.
Try doctoring up some hummus with tomatoes, almonds, celery, peppers and other vegetables to make a meal-time dish in the spirit of pulse.
In addition to eating well, it’s also important to eliminate as many toxins from our lives as possible.

Avoiding Toxins – PVC
We are so inundated with toxins in our environment that it’s almost impossible to avoid them.
Here is some advice on avoiding toxins.
Let’s focus on one particular type of toxin, PVC.
Most people, when they think of PVC, they think about water pipes, rain jackets or shower curtains. While those are certainly products made of PVC, there are thousands more products around us that contain PVC.
There are so many places it’s used that it may be impossible to completely avoid it. But you can lessen the contact by becoming aware.
I make a short video explaining the good and bad things about PVC. In this video I also give you a list of typical products containing PVC and what you can do to identify and to avoid it in your life.
Why should you avoid PVC? Some of you older folks may remember the hubbub made years ago about dioxins in the environment. Many dioxins were banned. But guess what contains dioxins….PVC.
Dioxins are a known carcinogen.
We’re not sure how PVC has not been banned as well. It might have something to do with political lobby. It is banned in about 14 worldwide countries.
Here’s the video. After you watch it, leave me a comment or suggestion and let’s keep the conversation going by sharing. The more people that become aware, the better off we’ll be.
