How to Make Comfrey Salve

Comfrey

Comfrey Root Salve
Comfrey has been used for centuries as a food and medicine. It was commonly used as a livestock feed as well.
Comfrey is known by herbalists as vulnerary, astringent, demulcent and expectorant.
Also called “knitbone” it was well known for hastening healing of tissues and bones. It was also used for coughs and lung issues. Its demulcent properties make it soothing for salves and creams.
The main useful components of comfrey are:
”    Mucilage (fructans)
”    Tannins
”    Allantoin
”    Rosmarinic acid
”    Sarracine
”    Platyphylline
”    Triterpenes
”    Sterols

However, a study done in the 1980s revealed that it contains hepatotoxic pyrolizidine alkaloids and recommends that it not be taken internally. I could find only one reference to someone dying from ingesting comfrey. So use internally at your own risk.
Here’s how to make the salve:
Gather a quantity of root and/or leaves. Root is best when gathered in the fall but may be used all year round. Breaking off a few pieces of the root will not damage the plant.
Wash thoroughly and chop into small pieces. (A food processor may be used)
Put the prepared plant in a double boiler or slow cooker and put in enough coconut oil to cover it.
Simmer for 3 hours.
Strain out plant parts.
At this point you may add a little beeswax to thicken the salve. It doesn’t take a lot.
You may also add a few drops of lavender or tea tree essential oil as a preservative and for additional healing properties.
Pour into containers while hot. A 2 ounce baby food jar is perfect.
Apply to wounds, bruises, and skin eruptions. Make sure any open wounds are cleaned well. It can hasten the healing so much that dirt and germs could be trapped under healing tissues and cause infections. Adding lavender essential oil will help reduce chance of infections.

Very Good Advice

Sometimes we get the most profound lessons from children’s books and movies.

Lewis Carroll wrote about his magical and fanciful world that has captured the imagination of not only children but of adults.

His character, Alice, takes a trip down a rabbit hole and gets in all sorts of trouble for her curiosity.

I had some thoughts on that.

The lady with the manicure and the ghille suit

I saw an odd thing the other day.

A lady got off a cruise ship dressed in a most unique way.

There were several thousand people in town that day from the cruise ships.

She had bleached blonde hair, lots of jewelry including a huge gaudy necklace,

designer boots and a French manicure.

What was odd was that she was wearing a ghille suit.

If you don’t know what that is, it’s a type of clothing that hunters and military snipers wear to hide from their prey.

It’s camouflage with loose leaves attached so you look like a pile of leaves.

That’s what she was wearing.

What a disconnect!

I was so startled that I forgot to get a picture.

She certainly got my attention.

As marketers, we try to attract attention in a huge marketplace.

It’s kind of like trying to find your friend on the dock where there are a couple of thousand other people.

We want to be able to find them and have them find us easily.

If you want to get found, you sometimes need to be outrageous.

People can’t find you if you are quiet and subdued.

Having ads that run constantly is one way to gain attention as long as they have a quality that cuts through the noise.

Emailing your list regularly is another way to keep them looking for you.

Being just a little different than everyone else is definitely a plus.

If everyone else wears blue, wear red.

People also like to see things about themselves. Make it about them and not about you.

If you look at professional ads like Pepsi or CocoCola, they show people feeling great and having fun.

It’s not so much about the product and its features and benefits, it’s about how it makes people feel.

Then there’s the KIA auto ads. They show a bunch of hamsters driving their car listening to beat music.

That’s more like wearing a ghille suit on the dock.

It’s out of place but entertaining.

They get attention.

I can’t look at a KIA without checking to see if it’s loaded with hamsters.

If other people are just posting links and spamming pages, they will get ignored.

You MUST have something to offer.

Be entertaining, different and give them something of value that will help them.

That’s how you get found.

Hope this is some good information for you.

See you on the docks in a ghille suit…

It’s all about making people happy

I started being a tour guide in Alaska part time for a little extra cash and to get out and about.

I did some guiding a few years ago and thought it might be fun to do again.

As I took some people out yesterday and taught them about our beautiful community and state, I realized how much I enjoy making people happy.

Every person that was on my tour left with a smile and a thank you. As I said goodbye, it was like I was saying goodbye to a whole group of new friends.

If more people would make it their daily mission to make other people around them happy, think what a difference it would make in the world.

It could completely eliminate war and a great deal of suffering. There would be no domestic violence. There would be a lot less crime because people would be thinking of others instead of themselves.

So what are you going to do today?

As for me, I’m going to go out and make some more people happy.

Have a beautiful day.

Renee Schofield- coaching doubter to coaching believer

Renee Schofield started several years ago purchasing a tiny drug testing business.

In 2007 people were telling her to sell out because the business was sure to crash.

Then something happened. Renee won a national award as a woman entrepreneur and as part of the winning package, she got 6 months of free coaching.

It was that coaching that turned things around for Renee.

I interviewed Renee this week to get her whole story and it’s an interesting one.

There’s never going to be a perfect time

What are you waiting for?

There will never be a perfect time to have a baby, get a better job, create your own business, go on that dream trip, get married, learn a new language, learn to play a musical instrument, or do any of the myriad things we dream about doing that we feel would make us happy.

Just DO THEM.

Don’t wait for enough money.

Don’t wait for the stars to align.

Don’t wait for spring, summer, fall or winter.

Just DO THEM.

When you set the wheels in motion, things will happen.

I just read a story about a family that sailed around the world in a small sailboat with their two boys.

They didn’t have enough money.

They quit their jobs and went and dealt with issues as they occurred.

They found it didn’t cost as much as they thought it would and that they were able to make some money along the way.

Their boys were taken out of school for the year-long trip and received far more education and experience than they would have in school.

They learned to love reading.

They learned geography and culture.

It added to their lives in ways they could never have imagined.

I’ve heard people waiting to have a family only to discover that the perfect timing never happens.

Don’t wait for it.

Make your dreams happen.

Go for it.

Outsourcing doesn’t have to cost a lot

As a home business owner you find yourself having to learn many skills.

Some of them you either hate to do or are really lousy at doing.

Home business owners need to be computer savvy.

They need to understand graphics, video and audio.

They need to understand copywriting.

They need to understand advertising and promotion.

The list of skills can be daunting for any small business owner.

Fortunately, there is a solution that can save you time and YES, money.

OUTSOURCING.

Hire professionals to do what they are good at so you can do what you are good at and like to do.

You may be saying to yourself right now, “But that sounds really expensive.”

Well, it can be but it doesn’t have to.

When you are first starting out, there are a number of resources that you can use.

One of the best I’ve found is a place called fiverr.com.

For a mere $5 people will do almost anything for your business.

They will create graphics and banners for your website.

They will record audio and video or supply you with music for your site.

They will write copy for your emails.

There are thousands of things listed.

If you want to try out fiverr.com, it’s free to look at all the things they have.

Then just hire your gig and wait a day or two and your order will be done.

I’ve had great service.

Plus, fiverr supplies you with reviews so you can make a good decision when you make your order.

I hope this helps you.
