6 Marketing techniques that are guaranteed to land you in Facebook Jail.

Facebook is a great place to market. There are a billion subscribers and they all love to communicate. Marketers have discovered that injecting themselves into communications is a great way to build a customer base.

But there are some things that marketers do that are guaranteed to go against Facebook’s rules.

  1. Sending out random friend requests without first asking permission.

I get several of these every day. People send me a friend request and expect me to accept it just because we may or may not know one or two people in common.

All it takes is for someone to tell Facebook you are spamming and you will end up in Facebook Jail.

If you want to end up banned for a period of time, be sure to send out lots of random friend requests to people you may or may not know.

  1. Send out too many friend requests in a short period of time.

Facebook will see this as spamming and will jail you for a while to cool off. I’ve seen people who are just friending people they really know getting caught by this one.

  1. Tag people in a post that doesn’t relate to them.

Nothing is more irritating than being tagged in an advertising post. Tagging was meant to be relevant to the person tagged. Again, Facebook will receive complaints and you will be cooling your heels in FB Jail.

  1. Spamming people’s timelines with your business opportunity.

People’s timelines are their personal property. They post things that are important to them. If you go out of your way to post on their timeline, you are guaranteed to get in trouble with Facebook.

  1. Sending dozens identical messages with your business opportunity link without first connecting with the person.

Cut and paste is a wonderful thing but it also indicates that the person is not important enough to you to relate to them on a personal level. When they see a link in a post, they may not even read it but complain to FB.

  1. Joining too many business fan or group pages in too short a time.

There are a number of groups that cater to home business and internet marketing. Some invite people to join and to post links to their opportunity. It’s tempting for a new entrepreneur to join dozens of these at once and start pasting their ads all over the place. Facebook will not allow you to join too many at one time.

There is some excellent training available if you want to use Facebook for your business. Nothing is more frustrating than being banned from posting on Facebook for 30 days or so when you break their rules.

It can cost you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in lost revenue.
